Welcome to Cutbona “ the major fishing hub in South Goa, which is the home for over 150 fishing vessels, operating from the jetty.
Hectic activity along the entire road running parallel to the fishing jetty on Sunday as the boat owners braced up to start yet another fishing season, beginning from Monday. Migrant workers engaged in unloading fishing nets from pick-ups and loading them in the fishing boats anchored in the river Sal was a common sight all along the jetty.
Some of the fishing vessels, whose workers have hit the jetty, were seen loading ice into the vessels ahead of the new season.
The boat owners also invoked the Almighty as they braced up for the new fishing season. The Chaplain attached to the Baradi Chapel, Fr Doel Dias blessed a couple of boats at the jetty on Sunday morning.
A drive down the jetty showed vehicles making a beeline at the fuel pump operated by the fisheries society to procure fuel for the fishing vessels. As per the High Court order, officials of the taluka Mamlatdar are required to open the seal of the fuel pumps stationed at the jetty a day before the commencement of the new season. The fuel pumps were sealed by the Mamlatdar officials during the 61-day fishing ban.
A visit to the adjoining Fisheries complex also saw hectic activity at the place. The ice plant has started full-fledged operations after a 61-day shutdown. In fact, vehicles lined up at the ice plant for loading of ice, which was later unloaded onto the fishing boats.
