A disappointed team of Hyderabad City police led by its Deputy Commissioner Sunitha Reddy is back to its home State, and yet again, without Edwin Nunes. The fugitive’s anticipatory bail application was on Thursday dismissed by the High Court of Telangana at Hyderabad in a drug bust two months ago.
The Osmania University police, looking out for Nunes and several others in Goa, are left wondering what stops the local police from locating their whereabouts in the tiny State.
“The local police including senior officers are seemingly under severe pressure again to save Nunes. They have stopped cooperating. Our teams are back empty-handed seeing this attitude but we might send the officers again,” a senior officer with Telangana police told The Goan.
Goa police had provided its manpower during a search for Nunes, John Stephen D’Souza of Hill Top Goa and others, last month after initial reluctance. However, sources said, the assistance wasn’t of much help as information about possible raids and arrests would be leaked to the accused. The Hyderabad police’s second visit to Goa suffered the same issues.
Goa Police have once again denied the allegation claiming every assistance is provided to their counterparts and that Nunes is wanted by Anjuna police too. “All these allegations are baseless. We also require his custody in a second FIR against him for faking his Covid-19 test results. Once arrested he will be investigated for the crime at Anjuna police station and then handed over to the Hyderabad police,” the officer, wishing anonymity, said.
The Anjuna police have already moved for his bail cancellation before the JMFC Mapusa which has slated its hearing on October 11.
The allegations come against the backdrop of Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh’s statement that many policemen fall prey to easy money while citing the suspension of two constables on charges of accepting protection money from a British drug dealer.
