PANAJI
Stating that 95 per cent of BJP voters have cast their votes in the by-poll, Chief Minister and BJP Panaji candidate Manohar Parrikar exuded confidence that the party will win both seats with a substantial margin.
Addressing a press conference at BJP headquarters in Panaji on Wednesday evening, "The voters' turnout indicates that people have responded to our campaign. We are certain that in both constituencies we will trounce our opponents. I do not want to speculate on the margin, wait for August 28."
Referring to the skirmish between the Congress and BJP workers at Tonca, he said, "Pratima Coutinho was roaming around in the constituency (Panaji) in such a way as though she has bought it. If I was not the candidate, I would have asked the police to take action. We have already complained to the EC. The Congress workers' behaviour today was like that
of ‘goondagiri.'"
Asked about the low voter turnout compared to the last election, he said, "If I consider booths which are my stronghold, the voting is high. The five to six booths where I am not so strong the voting percentage is low."
Questioned if it was due to the Chaturthi, he said, "If it was so, the impact would have been in Boca de Vaca, Atlto St Inez and Mala as these are the areas where people move outside Panaji during Chaturthi."
