Welcoming any leader to enter the Congress party, Congress leader from Vasco Saifullah Khan, who had contested assembly elections in Vasco in 2017, has said leaders must be focused on strengthening the party rather than aspiring for important positions.

Khan was speaking to reporters at Vasco amid speculations that State NCP President and former minister Jose Philip D’Souza was planning to join the Congress party.

Admitting he was unaware of any political leader planning or being invited to join Congress party from Vasco, Khan said: “Congress is a very big national party and with an ocean of supporters all over. There is no question of being upset because a bucket of water added in the ocean makes no difference to the national party or Vascokars at large.”

“We have been inviting political leaders from all national and regional parties to join us as we want to make the Congress party strong.”

“Sometimes, many leaders are willing to join the party to gain positions but they must remember the motive of joining the party should be to strengthen the party and not to eye important positions in the party,” said Khan.

He informed reporters that positions in the party are normally offered to those leaders who have made efforts made to strengthen the party at the grass roots for a minimum of 4 years.  “Anyone joining the party to make it stronger will be welcomed and there will be no objection from our side. Our only wish is that the next governments at the Centre and in Goa should be formed by the Congress,” said Khan.
