PANAJI: Nearly six to seven top bureaucrats of the Goa civil services cadre could soon find themselves elevated to the blue-collared joint AGMUT cadre of the Indian Administrative Services (IAS).
In a communique to the State Chief Secretary, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has conveyed that Goa's quota in the posts to be filled through promotion in the AGMUT cadre has been hiked from the existing 10 to 13.
The enhancement of Goa's quota has come about after a review of the AGMUT cadre conducted in June last year by the Government of India's Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). According to the communique from the Home Ministry, the number of posts to be filled by promotion in the AGMUT cadre was raised from 102 to 122 following the DoPT review.
Meanwhile, top sources in the Goa government said the selection process to shortlist which six to seven of the Goa civil services Grade I officers will make it to the IAS cadre will be kick started very soon.
The enhanced quota of three plus an unfilled four posts of the past are available to the Goa government to be filled by promotion. The State government will have to complete the process of shortlisting the names and recommending the list to the Ministry of Home Affairs which will take the final call on the elevation of the State cadre bureaucrats as IAS officers.
Sandip Jacques, Arun Desai and Swapnil Naik were the last three officers who made it to the IAS' joint AGMUT cadre a couple of years ago. Prior to these three officers, eight others were also similarly promoted to the elite cadre, namely, AK Wasnik, SP Dixit, JB Singh, C Prabhakar, WV Ramanamurthy, Daulat Hawaldar, PS Reddy and Mihir Wardhan.
