A 19-year-old second-year student from IIT Farmagudi, identified as Jivya Vijaykumar Khati from Madhya Pradesh, was found dead in a girls’ hostel room on Saturday night.
The student had apparently taken her own life by hanging. Police have launched an investigation but have yet to determine the exact reasons behind the incident.
According to reports, when fellow students noticed that Jivya’s room was locked from the inside, they broke the lock to check on her. Upon entering, they found her unresponsive and immediately took her to a private hospital in Ponda. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
During a search of the room, police discovered a note left by Jivya indicating that she had been experiencing stress, which she cited as the reason for her decision. Her family has been notified, and a post-mortem will be conducted once they arrive in Goa.
Inspector Vijaynath Kavalekar is leading the investigation into the case.
