MAPUSA
The government on Tuesday demolished seven illegal structures/shops constructed along the Mapusa-Calangute road coming under the jurisdiction of Verla-Canca panchayat.
The Verla-Canca panchayat body during a site inspection last month found that around 10 shops/structures were constructed on the roadside without taking any permission from the panchayat.
According to the panchayat the structures were constructed recently as these structures were not present at the site in 2019. It also found that the panchayat had not granted any permission for construction of the structures.
The panchayat body unanimously resolved to take immediate action against the illegal construction and to demolish them.
“We had to demolish the structures as the panchayat had not issued any permission to them. We will also file a police complaint against those responsible for construction of the illegal structures,” said Amita Korgaonkar, Sarpanch of Verla-Canca.
The demolition order was served on 10 illegal structures along the road but three have managed a stay from the court.
Verla-Canca Sarpanch, Amita Korgaonkar, Block Development Officer, Shiv Prasad, panchayat secretary and other officials were present during the demolition.
