IMD issues yellow alert for next three days

After experiencing a long period of weak monsoon, rain is likely to pick up across the State in the coming days, the weather report said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert and predicted moderate rainfall at most places for three days from September 7 to 9 and heavy rainfall at isolated places for the same period.

According to the IMD, rainfall systems were developing in Westcentral Bay of Bengal which could bring some rainfall to the State.

“The Low Pressure Area over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts has become less marked. However, the associated cyclonic circulation now lies over south interior Odisha and neighbourhood and extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height,” the IMD press release said.

It further said that the monsoon trough now passes through Bikaner, Guna, Mandla, Raipur, Kalingapattanam and thence southeastwards to Westcentral Bay of Bengal and extends upto 2.1 km above mean sea level.
