Social activist Judith Almeida has cautioned that the Colva Sewerage Treatment plant may not help to plug the discharge of sewage and wastewater discharge into the Colva creek unless the Tourism Director mandates all the hotels operating in the tourist village connect to the sewerage network.
No doubt, the High Court has appointed the Tourism Director as the nodal officer to implement its directions on the Colva STP and the creek by getting the licensed premises to connect to the STP.
Judith, however, demanded to know how the Tourism Director would go about vis-Ã -vis establishments operating in the tourist village sans the mandatory licenses.
She warned that the intended objective of setting up the STP would be defeated and go in vain if the unlicensed establishments are not connected to the sewerage network. “The very purpose of the High Court directions will go in vain if the unlicensed establishments are not connected to the STP. In such a situation, the sewage from these establishments may continue to find its way into the creek, defeating the very purpose of the entire exercise”, Judith added.
