Increased booths add to voting ease in Bicholim
BICHOLIM: Voting in Bicholim taluka took place without any untoward incident, though two different group clashes were reported in the wee hours of Saturday.
Voting in the three constituencies of Bicholim, Sakhali and Mayem began at slow pace in the morning, but gathered momentum during the day. Voters could vote without much delay at most places in Bicholim taluka, largely because the number of polling booths had been increased for these polls.
Many elderly people were seen carried by their relatives to and from polling booths even in the extreme heat, in a determined bid to exercise their franchise.
Two incidents of group clashes between BJP and MGP supporters were reported at Bandarwada and Lamgao in Bicholim in the wee hours of Saturday, even though no complaint was filed in the Bicholim police station in this connection.
The first incident was reported at Bandarwada-Bicholim at about 1.30 am on Saturday, when both groups began clashes over their presence in the area at an unearthly hour. The matter was later brought under control and the issue was settled.
Later at about 2.30 am, another group clashe between BJP and MGP supporters broke out at Lamgao. The issue was later settled amicably by both groups.
When contacted, Bicholim PI Narayan Chimulkar said no complaint of any untoward incident had been reported in Bicholim taluka.
