The BJP-MGP alliance suffered a major shock after independent candidate Radhika Palyekar won the Arambol ZP constituency by a mere 54 votes.
Political leaders from Pernem, including Mandrem’s MGP MLA Jit Arolkar, former BJP MLA Dayanand Sopte, and Pernem MLA Praveen Arlekar, had worked tirelessly to ensure the victory of BJP-MGP alliance candidate Manisha Korkhankar.
However, voters delivered a stunning verdict, rejecting the MGP-BJP alliance candidate and electing independent candidate Radhika Palayekar.
Of a total of 13,146 voters who exercised their franchise, Radhika Palyekar secured 4,784 votes, while Manisha Korkhankar polled 4730 votes, followed by Netty Fernandes (Congress “ 1380 votes), Shrutika Shetye (independent “ 1366) and Jacinta D'Souza (RGP - 741 votes).
The result of the ZP elections came as a shock to political leaders in the taluka.
Radhika Palyekar attributed her victory to the cooperation of all workers, sarpanch, panch members, and voters.
“A large part of the credit also goes to ZP member Ranganath Kalshavkar. I pledge to fulfil all promises made to voters in my manifesto and utilise the ZP funds for development,” said Palyekar.
Manisha Korkhankar said she had accepted the verdict of the electorate and expressed her gratitude to Arolkar, Sopte and Arlekar for working hard during her campaign.
MORJIM
Having suffered a major setback in the Arambol ZP constituency, Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar managed to secure a victory in Morjim when the BJP-MGP alliance candidate Tara Hadfadkar emerged victorious.
Hadfadkar polled 6,083 votes, while Congress candidate Priyanka Dabholkar secured 1,782 votes, followed by Shilpa Mhamal (Goa Forward Party - 2,597), Suvarna Harmalkar (AAP - 399), and Samiya Kannaik (Independent - 400 votes).
Hadfadkar credited her victory to MGP MLA Jeet Arolkar, BJP leader Dayanand Sopte, along with the sarpanchas, deputy sarpanchas, panch members, and other workers in Morjim, Mandrem, Agarwada, and Chopde panchayats.
“The promises made will be fulfilled through MLA Jeet Arolkar and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's government,” said Hadfadkar.
Former MLA Dayanand Sopte, said the victory belongs to the MGP-BJP alliance.
“The mandate given by voters is acceptable to all. In Arambol constituency, the BJP-MGP alliance candidate faced defeat by a small margin, and everyone knows who failed to secure a victory,” said Sopte.
DHARGAL
The BJP-MGP alliance candidate Shrikrishna Harmalkar won the Dhargal ZP constituency by polling 5,065 votes and securing a lead of 3,225 votes.
The other candidates were Aniket Salgaonkar (Goa Forward - 1829 votes), Anil Harmalkar (RGP “ 1,501 votes), Dnyaneshwar Shivji (Independent “ 1,840 votes), Rama Naik (Independent - 1677 votes), Prasad Shahapurkar (AAP - 414 votes) and Uday Krishna Mandrekar (Independent - 76 votes).
Harmalkar attributed his victory to the support of Pernem MLA Praveen Arlekar, Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar, former MLA Dayanand Sopte, Pernem BJP Mandal President Siddhesh Pednekar and all workers in the ZP constituency.
“I will give top priority to development, transparency and inclusive work. The all-round development of Dhargal ZP will be our focus,” said Harmalkar.
MLA Praveen Arlekar said the people of Dhargal ZP constituency have once again expressed their faith in BJP.
“We will work together to further increase the pace of development through the central, state and local self-government bodies,” said Arlekar.
TORSEM
BJP candidate Raghoba Kambli won the Torsem ZP constituency by a margin of 277 votes.
While Kambli secured 3725 votes, independent candidate Gajanan Gadekar polled 3448 votes, followed by Pradeep Purushottam Kambli (Independent - 3034 votes), Narayan Shirodkar (RGP - 1114 votes), and Keshav Ladu Kambli (AAP - 125 votes).
Pernem MLA Praveen Arlekar said the victory has been achieved due to the tireless work and dedication of workers in the constituency.
