In a strategic policy push, Union Minister Jitendra Singh today underscored India’s readiness to take responsibility of being global leader cum guardian in Geopolitics of Ocean Sciences.
Singh was in Goa to inaugurate Polar Bhavan, Sagar Bhavan and Science on a Sphere (SOS) at National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) in Sada- Vasco.
Speaking to media post event, Minister said that considering the kind of emphasis Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given to the blue economy and deep ocean mission, India is now ready to take the responsibility of being not only a global player in geopolitics of ocean science but also a global leader cum global guardian
Singh said that the blue economy is one of the major sectors that is going to add value to India’s economy as the country aims for Vikasit Bharat 2047.
Calling for a greater focus on the ocean sector, the Minister said that India's coastline has remained relatively untapped, despite having potential to drive value addition to India’s growing economy.
He said that institutes like NCPOR are going to become the medium for India’s emergence as a global player in Ocean Sciences and Geopolitics of Ocean science. He said that the Institute is going to be a hub for the future blue economy of India.
“The information obtained from here, analysis taken from here will help the country in disaster preparedness, address climate concern and also study the weather pattern not only confined to the shores of India but the entire world,” Singh said.
