CANACONA
A 49-year-old woman from Ireland was found dead at a starred hotel in Rajbhag-Canacona and was later cremated in accordance with Hindu rites.
Sinead Bridget McManus (49), a woman from Ireland, had checked into the hotel in Canacona on December 29 and was found dead in her room on December 31.
Two foreign women have died in Canacona taluka within a gap of two days, as Emma Louise (45) of UK was found dead in Agonda on January 2.
McManus, who was reportedly a blogger and columnist, had been visiting Canacona every year and was also known to have had friends in Delhi.
According to Canacona police, McManus along with her female friends from Delhi had landed in Goa on December 29 and had checked in at the starred hotel at Rajbhag.
On December 30, McManus had moved out to visit nearby places, and returned to the hotel room later in the day. However, she failed to come down to have dinner that night
When she did not go for breakfast the next morning, the hotel staff tried to call her through the hotel intercom, but she did not answer the phone.
Finding it unusual, the hotel staff decided to open the door with the help of the master key, only to find her lying dead in the room.
The hotel management informed Canacona police about the incident and a police team went to the site.
The police conducted a panchnama of the incident and under intimation to the embassy/consulate, a post-mortem was conducted on the body, which established that McManus had died due to a heart attack.
Canacona PI Chandrakant Gawas said police registered a case of unnatural death on December 31.
Through the embassy, the family of the deceased was contacted. Sinead’s sister and other relatives flew down to Goa and took possession of the body.
Stating that the last wish of the deceased had been to cremate her in accordance to Hindu traditions, the family cremated her body in accordance with Hindu rites in Goa itself.
