ISKCON members protest at Margao PS over assault on devotees and workers

MARGAO
Members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Sunday assembled outside the South Goa district police headquarters to demand justice to the devotees and workers attacked by some persons at Borim village.

The members had apparently come to call on the district police chief, SP Abhishek Dhania, but the police officer was not present since it was a Sunday. A delegation is expected to call on the district police chief on Monday.

Members of ISKCON pointed out that their devotees as well as workers working on the road construction leading to their property were attacked by some persons. They claimed that the workers were not only beaten up, but their mobile phones damaged and lifted away apparently to destroy evidence.

Saying that ISKCON is an organisation that has its presence across the world, members refuted the propaganda spread by some persons that the organisation is linked to drugs. “This organisation is instrumental in converting the hippies to happiness. We are not into drugs consumption, but we spread value-based education,” they said.

They pointed out that road was being constructed with government permission to their property admeasuring 30,000 square metres. “We have proposed some activity inside our property, including construction of a temple. We have plans to take up rain water harvesting in our property. We are not come at Borim to destroy vegetation, but have plans to plant variety of plants including medicinal plants,” they said.
