It’s ‘school time’ for non-teaching, admin staff today

PANAJI

Staff rooms and offices in hundreds of educational institutions are expected to spring to life as admin and non-teaching staff get back to school following last week's missive by the respective Directors of Education and Higher Education of the State.

The staffers in schools have been told to report to their respective institutes and do their full daily hours from Monday.

In Colleges and the Goa university, teaching faculty too have been asked to report although learning and teaching activity continues to remain online and in no-contact digital mode.

Getting physically to school for several from these hundreds of non-teaching cadre in schools and academics in Colleges and the Goa University campus may be a tough ask though with the State having extended the curfew until June 14 and public transport nowhere near normal.

Other than citing the improved Covid-19 situation, the two departments of the education ministry have shied away from giving reasoning or purpose for their sudden decision to ditch the 'work from home' protocol and ask staffers to get back to school physically.

In the pandemic hit previous academic year too the authorities had issued similar missives but had later retracted and fallen back on the 'work from home' protocol after associations of teaching and non-teaching employees had raised concern over risks of contracting the dreaded virus, especially the high-risk older folks, when several tested positive and some even succumbed.
