Noted Jesuit priest of Goan origin Fr Kustas Lima (50) died after a brief illness at Gadhinglaj-Kolhapur on Friday afternoon.
A popular priest, dynamic youth leader, and an ardent pastor, Fr Lima was known for his ever-present smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication. Fr Kustas leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and service that touched several lives.
Born the youngest son of the Lima family, he joined the Jesuits in June 1998 and was ordained priest in December 2009.
“His priestly ministry was marked by zeal and creativity. From his first appointment as Assistant Parish Priest in Gadhinglaj (2009) to Priest-in-Charge of Gavse Mission (2014“2016), and later Director of ITI, Khanapur (2018“2019), he consistently blended pastoral care with innovative outreach,” said Fr Steven Almeida, principal of St Paul’s PU College.
“As youth coordinator of the Goa Jesuit Province and Parish Priest of Milagres Church, Khanapur (2019“2024), he inspired a generation of young people through his visionary leadership. Most recently, he served as Parish Priest of St Anthony’s Church, Gadhinglaj (2024“2025).”
St Paul’s High School Principal Fr Simon Fernandes said Fr Lima was a pastor close to his people, simple, firm in faith, and full of joy. Whether organising pilgrimages for the elderly or addressing clergy across South Asia, he radiated love for God and humanity.
The funeral was held at Fatima Cathedral, Camp-Belagavi on Sunday, followed by burial at the Christian Cemetery near Gold Course here.
Bishop Derek Fernandes also mourned the loss of a noted and dynamic priest from Belagavi.
