Reiterating his government’s commitment on the implementation of Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said he would lead a delegation in New Delhi on Thursday to persuade the Centre to give clearance to Karnataka to implement the Mhadei Water Diversion project.

He has also said he would discuss the issue with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thakare during his meeting with Thakare in New Delhi on Thursday.

Yediyurappa was in Belagavi on Wednesday to inaugurate the Rs 76.80 crore Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) which is set up under the Smart City Project.

The Centre is aimed at benefiting the entire Belagavi city through application of ICT (information and communication technologies) and resulting improvement in local governance and delivery of public services.

“We are serious about the Mhadei Water Diversion project. Along with Karnataka MPs, I will meet the union minister for environment and forests in New Delhi to persuade him about giving required (environment) clearance for the implementation of the project,” he said

speaking to media persons after the inaugural function of the ICCC to set aside accusations that his government had not taken up the matter seriously.

CM Yediyurappa, who avoided making mention of Goa, also said he was looking forward to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thakare in New Delhi on Thursday.

“I will have discussions with him in an attempt to seek an understanding on humanitarian ground as Karnataka is seeking its share of drinking water,” he said.

Earlier, Yediyurappa inaugurated Karnataka’s first ICCC integrated system in Belagavi. The integrated system will operate and manage multiple city service operations, including real-time monitoring and improving efficiency.

Continuous monitoring of water supply (supply levels, losses and water quality), traffic management, operation of satellite bus shelters and bus service, solid waste management, etc., will be done by the centre.

The RFID tag is being fixed to 1.10 lakh households in Belagavi city under the Smart City Project which will help monitor the collection of waste door-to-door with the help of ICCC.

Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi, Dy CM Laxman Savadi, Women & Child Welfare Minister Shashikala Jolle, MPs Dr Prabhakar Kore, Annasaheb Jolle and others were present at the function.
