Karnataka police manning the Goa-Karnataka border check post at Majali late Monday night seized Rs 1 crore in unaccounted cash from a Goa-Bangalore bus. Two passengers have been taken into custody in this connection.
According to media reports, a police team was at the Majali check post when an inter-State private bus from Panaji and heading towards Bangalore arrived at the check post.
While the police were on a routine inspection for liquor contraband, when they stumbled upon large amounts of cash in bundles from one of the passenger’s bag.
Police then questioned two natives of Rajasthan, who were occupying the seats and found out that the bag containing the cash belonged to one of them.
Sources informed that the Chittakula-Sadashivgad police personnel manning the check post then seized the cash and on verification, found out that the bag contained cash of Rs 1 crore.
The police then sought the documents from the passengers in connection with the huge cash in the bag.
While the two passengers failed to submit papers or documents to justify the possession of the cash, the Chittakula-Sadashivgad police booked the duo and took them into custody. Police are investigating the seizure of the unaccounted cash.
