MARGAO: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat was the cynosure of all eyes on Saturday following the deterioration of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s health, but the former Chief Minister dismissed as rumours all reports which spoke about his return to the BJP fold.
That Kamat was not seen with Congress leaders on Saturday evening only fueled further speculation, but Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar told The Goan late Saturday that the Margao MLA was supposed to leave for a private engagement later in the evening, adding that no motives should be attributed to the Margo MLA’s absence.
“This is not the first time that rumours about my imminent return to the BJP have been doing the
rounds in the state. I have no such plan”, Kamat told The Goan.
The rumours about his imminent return to the BJP fold comes against the backdrop of reports that he and his workers have been unhappy with the way the Congress has been treating the former Chief
Minister. That his candidature for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, Adv Cleofato Coutinho did not find favour with the Congress leadership despite his status as the Chief campaign manager of the Congress party for the ensuing polls has not gone down well with the Kamat camp.
Kamat was under the scanner of his political opponents both within the congress and outside over his visit to Delhi earlier this week. While his opponents were trying to figure out whether his visit to the national capital had anything to do with politics, Kamat has come clear saying he was in the national capital for a wedding of a close family friend.
