Opposition leader Digambar Kamat and BJP-turned-Congress leader Michael Lobo said the Congress high command will take a call on former Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco’s offer to join the party.
Michael, however, reminded that Reginaldo was not involved in jumping from the party to join a government, saying he had quit the Congress to contest on another political party banner because the term was over.
Both Digambar and Michael spoke to the media after they came out of a city hotel late Sunday night after going into a huddle with Congress Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao.
Digambar said the meeting was a normal one held to chalk out the election strategy. Saying that he has heard reports that Reginaldo has quit the TMC, Digambar, however, said the party in Delhi will decide on the induction of Reginaldo into the party or not.
Michael, on the other hand, pointed out that he had tweeted in his personal capacity requesting Reginaldo to join the Congress. “Whether Reginaldo will be taken back or not will be decided by the party leadership. But, I want to tell one thing that Reginaldo did not jump from the Congress to join a government. He had resigned to contest on another political party because the term is over, same way I have resigned from the BJP to join the Congress and fight on the party banner,” he added.
Michael said there’s nothing wrong if Reginaldo wants to return to the Congress fold after realizing that the TMC is not good for him. He later declined to comment when the media drew attention that Reginaldo had quit the Congress even after the party had declared him the candidate for the Curtorim seat.
