The Maina-Curtorim police has zeroed in on three vehicles to shed light on the murder of the Kanahiya Kumar Mondal in the Loutolim hit and run case, which was later converted into a murder case.

In fact, a police team has headed to Karnataka to trace a vehicle, which the police hope will shed light on the death of the Bihari native.

After the truck driver from Belagavi told the police that he had seen the body of Kanahiya Mondal lying on the Loutolim road and that he had avoided hitting the body, the Maina-Curtorim police has zeroed in on three vehicles, including trucks which had used the road on June 25 at the time of the incident.

“We have zeroed in on three vehicles which had crossed the spot on June 25 when the incident occurred. We are verifying the details. Our team has gone to Karnataka to trace the truck driver to assist in the investigations,” he said, while exuding confidence that investigations in the case is moving in the right direction.

Already three policemen attached to the Ponda police station have been placed under suspension after they had dropped Kanahiya Mondal from the Ponda police station into the jurisdiction of the Maina-Curtorim police station at Loutolim.

It was only after the post-mortem examination revealed that the deceased had four cut marks on his throat and three stab wounds on his stomach that the police later registered a case of murder against unknown persons.
