Commuters travelling between Goa and Belagavi via Anmod may have some relief in the near future, as Karwar district authorities have taken up the repairs and completion of the Ramnagar-Anmod stretch of the NH4A on priority.
Karwar Assistant Commissioner Vidyashri Chandargi has taken up the matter on priority, after an inspection of the condition of the road along the Goa-Belagavi NH4A.
As the road is in dilapidated condition, the deputy commissioner had imposed a total ban on movement of heavy and multi-axle vehicles, due to which transportation of goods between Belagavi and Goa has been affected.
After a number of assurances by authorities to repair and complete the Khanapur-Anmod stretch of the Belagavi-Panaji NH4A have vanished into thin air, the Karwar assistant commissioner's visit has now rekindled hopes among villagers and commuters from both states.
“I have surveyed the condition of the road between Ramnagar and Anmod, which has really become pathetic. I have directed the local tehshildar, NHAI officials and contractors to take up repairs of the bad stretches,” Chandargi told media persons.
“I have also given a 20-day deadline to get the road repaired, to facilitate moment of two-wheelers and light vehicles. The possibility to restart the pending work on the highway is also being worked out.”
“As the earlier contractor had left the work, tenders have been floated to restart construction of the highway. I will personally follow up so that the highway is ready at the earliest,” she added.
