Keith’s wife owns posh villa in Betalbatim

The wife of shamed MP Keith Vaz owns a luxury villa in Goa, bringing the total value of their property portfolio to £4.4million.

PANAJI:
It was revealed that the Vaz family invested in the Sunset Meadows at Betalbatim nine years ago with a three-storey villa, 500 metres from the beach in a gated community with use of an outdoor swimming pool.
“The agreed purchase price was for £98,000 in 2007. It was paid for by six separate installments and financed by the sale of land inherited from her parents.”
Vaz was not obliged to declare the villa on the MPs’ register of interests as it is owned by his wife. Maria Fernandes bought the £400,000 beach resort property in 2007 and the couple have since enjoyed regular breaks there with their children.
Vaz’s spokesman confirmed that Fernandes is the registered owner and her husband had stayed at the property.
The couple own a string of seven houses and flats in London and Leicester “ including their £2.1million family home and the flat where Vaz allegedly paid two young Eastern European escorts for sex. MP Andrew Bridgen said: “It is clear that Keith Vaz’s financial affairs are an enigma wrapped up in a mystery.”
Vaz’s handprint is one of four on a pillar at the entrance with a sign reading: “Keith & Maria, Luke & Anjali, placed their hands on this building on 1st January 2009.”
It is also learnt that Keith has entertained a number of local politicians and celebrities at the house.
