“Besides conducting courses in the tourism and hospitality sector, training should also be imparted in other areas such as IT, plumbing, electrician, car repairs, etc, which will boost the chances of getting employment for youth, while also enabling them to start their own business,” said Khaunte.
He was addressing the ‘Kaushal Mela’ at Porvorim organized by Emerge Vocational Skills Pvt Ltd, which has been selected as training partners by the National Skill Development Council for the job role of front office, food beverage service and housekeeping for PMKVY, the only training partner for this job role in the State.
“There are many employment opportunities for youth who have passed VIII, IX and X standard as well as HSSC in the IT sector. There is need to provide training to these youth to enhance their chances of employability in this sector. Training is a continuous exercise and it should be carried on with zeal and determination to make Skill India Abhiyan a success,” said Khaunte.
On the occasion, Khaunte distributed certificates to students who have completed courses.
Earlier in her welcome address, Principal of Gesto Culinary Hospitality Academy Joana Pereira Azavedo said the objective of the scheme was to outline the possible career paths and income generation potential to the candidates once the training has been imparted.
“Emerge Vocational skills has been selected for three job roles, housekeeping attendant, front office associate and food beverage service,” said Azavedo. Goa Human Resource Development Corporation general Manager Austin Colaco, Andriel Fernandes and Nieseeth Behera, manager operations, also spoke on this occasion.
