PORVORIM
Accusing the PWD (water section) in Porvorim of supplying water through tankers to hotels in other constituencies, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has demanded an inquiry by the vigilance department and stern action against those involved in the “scam”.
In a letter to the vigilance department, Khaunte has stated that residents of Porvorim have been facing acute water shortage and are dependent on water supplied by tankers.
“It has been noticed from the records maintained by PWD at O’Coqueiro, Torda, that water tankers are being sent to places outside Porvorim, leading to water scarcity in Porvorim constituency,” added Khaunte.
Khaunte further stated that records show that majority of water tankers are being sent to hotels in Baga, Calangute and Quegdevlem and not to residential areas.
“What is most disturbing is that most of the ‘tankers disbursement register’ has no acknowledgement copies, raising strong suspicion that the government officials are involved in underhand dealings with the hoteliers in coastal regions. Water supply to other regions has resulted in water crisis and hardships to residents of Porvorim.”
“The difficulties being faced by residents of Porvorim constituency due to water shortage have been conveyed to PWD (water supply division) several times, but the misery is that government officials concerned continued authorizing supply of water tankers to neighbouring constituencies of Saligao and Calangute for reasons best known to them,” stated Khaunte in the letter.
“This is a clear case of hand-in-gloves situation and time and again I had complained against water shortage created by wrong deeds of the said officials.”
“The engineers concerned have not shown any accountability nor have they conducted any enquiry into the matter. Hence, this complaint may be registered against the government officials concerned and enquiry be conducted into the matter and stern action be taken against those involved in water tankers scam,” stated Khaunte in his complaint.
