KLES facilitates organ donation, 4 lives saved

BELAGAVI

The lives of four persons have been saved after KLEs facilitated the donation of organs of a poor farmer from Gokak taluka, who was declared brain dead after a brain injury in an accident.

The KLES said the farmer and his family have become role models in society, setting an exemplary example of humanitarian services.

The liver was sent to Bengaluru via flight from Hubbali, while the kidneys were donated to Hubballi and Dharwad hospital each.

Police from Belagavi and Dharwad offered a ‘green corridor’, due to which the liver was transported to Hubbali airport within 55 minutes.

A poor farmer (50) from the Gokak was admitted to the KLES Dr Prabhakar Hospital after he was seriously injured on Monday in a vehicle accident.

Severe injuries left the farmer brain dead with the organs functioning normally. The KLES team persuaded the wife and brothers of the farmer about the importance of organ donation and sought their consent.

The skin and eyes were donated to the KLES eye and skin bank. While the eyes can give sight to two blind persons, the skin grafting is done for burns.

The KLES team comprising Dr Nerli, Dr Ritesh Vernekar, Dr Sunil Shenvi of BGS Global and her team, Transplant Coordinators Pramod Sulikeri, Neeraj Dixit, and others facilitated the organ transplant and transportation.
