Goa, which has played host to the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) since 2004, is getting ready for the 51st edition of this prestigious festival that offers a platform to showcase Indian and international films to global audiences. In recent years, the Goan film industry itself has grown by leaps and bounds and is slowly stepping onto the national scene and Konkani cinema has carved a place for itself at IFFI. The film festival this year, will be celebrating Goan films under two distinct sections - the premiere and non-premiere.

This year for the 51st edition of IFFI 2021, the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) received seven entries in both the sections, five entries in the premiere section (one feature and four non-feature) and two entries in the non-premiere section (one feature and one feature).

The jury members on board were distinct professionals from the Indian film industry - Sanjay Kapoor, Rajat Nagpal and Ridham Janve. The selected films in respective sections are ‘Shinvar’, a short film by Manguirish Bandodkar and Pravin Parker in the premier section. In the non-premier section, a short film by Suyash Kamat ‘Written in the corners’ will be screened.

In its endeavour to promote Goan cinema, ESG introduced the Goan section in 2014 to showcase Goan feature and non-feature films produced during the year. The festival which has made Goa its permanent home, has proved to be a platform for delegates to be introduced to the niche Goan film industry.
