Thirteen persons were injured when a KTC bus and a Tempo Traveller collided with each other at Bhironda-Sattari on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 7.30 am when the Tempo Traveller was carrying health department staff from Valpoi area towards Panaji via Bhironda, while the KTC was travelling from Vante area towards Valpoi.
The two vehicles collided along a narrow stretch of the road near a chapel in Bhironda.
Hearing the sound of the two vehicles collide, residents in the area rush to the site and pulled several people out of the bus.
Thirteen injured persons were moved to the Valpoi Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. The injured have been identified as Anjani Rane (Bhironda), Audumbar Manjrekar (Shingne Pisurle), Santosh Masurkar (Ansole), Divya Naik (Gawane), Vitthal Naik (Gawane), Ashwini Gavkar (Bhironda), Shivanand Harijan (Khadavi), Chandravati Gavkar (Dhamse), Sagun Mhalsekar (Barajan Khadki), Ranjit Harijan (Khadki Walpai), Somnath Harijan (Gawane) and Ganesh Rane (Bhironda).
CHC officials said the condition of all 13 persons was improving and none of the injuries were serious. Many of them were later sent home from the CHC Valpoi.
Valpoi Police Inspector Harish Gavas and PSI Sneha Gavas conducted the panchnama at the site.
When contacted, many locals said the narrow stretch of the road has witnessed a number of mishaps in the past. They have been requesting authorities to widen the road, especially since vehicular traffic has increased between Bhironda and Ponda.
