Employees of the state-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) have called a statewide strike on November 12 to protest the introduction of an app-based ticketing system, fearing it could lead to job losses and reduce the role of conductors.
The employees’ union has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the circular introducing the system, arguing that technological upgrades should not come at the cost of workers’ livelihoods.
AITUC leader Christopher Fonseca said a formal strike notice had been submitted to KTCL authorities, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and the Chief Secretary.
The union has also sought discussions with the government before the new ticketing mechanism is
implemented.
Bus services across Goa could be severely disrupted if the proposed strike goes ahead, with no resolution emerging from talks.
KTCL management has not yet officially responded to the strike call, while the State government is also yet to comment on the employees’ demands.
