A Karnataka State Transport bus rammed into a roadside signboard, injuring nine passengers after the iron frame pierced one side of the vehicle and shattered the window panes. The bus was on its way from Margao to Kumta (Karnataka).

Sources said the incident occurred at around 6.30 pm on the Gulem stretch of the NH66 highway. The inter-state bus, bearing registration number KA31 F1587, veered to the extreme left and brushed against the iron signboard stand, breaking the signboard in the process. The left-side windows were smashed, and broken glass fell on passengers, injuring nine of them. Two of the passengers reportedly sustained serious injuries.

The injured were first taken to the Community Health Centre at Chaudi. Several were later shifted to South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao. It is also learnt that two passengers with head injuries caused by the impact were referred to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim.

Canacona police reached the site and conducted a panchanama. They said a detailed investigation will be carried out into the incident, which happened on a straight stretch of NH66. The bus driver has been sent for medical examination.

Some passengers who were not injured later boarded another bus heading towards Karwar.
