Karnataka’s decision to restart schools in the state received a major setback as 22 school teachers in the district have tested Covid positive.
The 22 teachers consisted of 18 teachers from Belagavi district and four from Chikkodi.
The schools in the district reopened from January 1, but some schools in the district were shut immediately after teachers tested positive
The schools were later sanitised and the infected teachers have been sent to home quarantine and they are stable and asymptomatic.
Deputy Commissioner M G Hiremath said four teachers from Belagavi city, 10 from Belagavi rural, three from Ramdurg and one from Kittur taluk in Belagavi educational district have tested positive.
Besides, four teachers in Chikkodi educational district comprising two from Hukkeri and two in Raibag taluk also tested positive, DC Hiremath said.
All the teachers who have tested positive had undergone Covid-19 test on January 1, before joining the schools.
However as there are no positive cases reported in other schools and colleges, there is no necessity of closing the schools and colleges, DC Hiremath said.
Meanwhile, confusion prevailed among parents and students regarding attending the classes. Parents have requested the authorities to continue with the online classes as Covid threat still prevails in the region.
Meanwhile, questions are also being raised as there was no mention of these positive cases in the reports and updates sent by the health authorities.
