PERNEM
The six people arrested by Pernem Police in connection with the attack on former Mandrem Sarpanch, Mahesh Konadkar, were presented in court and denied police custody.
The court granted them bail on a bond of ten thousand rupees each.
The six accused, involved in the attack, were arrested by a Goa Police team in Karwar. Earlier, Pundalik Harijan, the vehicle owner, was also arrested and later released on bail.
Mandrem Police Inspector Narayan Chimulkar said the police received information that the attack on Mahesh Konadkar on December 4 was due to a land dispute.
Three of the six arrested accused are involved in the land dealing business.
These three accused had also started dealing with land in Siolim, which Konadkar had also sold.
The accused became angry and decided to take their frustration out on him, said Chimulkar.
Inspector Chimulkar added that the accused initially refused to cooperate.
However, when the police took firm action, they began to talk.
They revealed that they were in the land dealing business and had dealt with land in Siolim.
Konadkar had finalised the deal for the same land, which made the accused angry, leading them to assault him, said Chimulkar.
