Land grab accused escape: Oppn flays police inaction

PANAJI
Taking the opportunity to highlight declining policing standards in the State and increasing political interference, the Opposition parties criticised the Goa Police after a notorious criminal involved in a land grab escaped from police custody.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said: “Public trust in Goa Police has eroded significantly. Police are working like agents and protectors of criminals. From hafta vasuli to engaging robbers in housebreaking, police in collusion with criminals have become a threat to law and order.”

AAP President Amit Palekar said: “Goa police should be embarrassed to the core, this is the ‘greatest escape’ and shows the incompetence of the Crime Branch and Goa Police. CM Pramod Sawant should take action and suspend the ones involved.”

Goa Forward President Vijai Sardesai quipped, accused gets out of lock up like checking out from hotel; excellent customer service from Goa Police. “Everyone is aware of the highest level of political interference in the Police Department and such hospitality wouldn’t have been possible without the green signal from the very top,” he added.
