The family of UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman is the latest victim of a land scam in Goa.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Goa Police has swung into action to zero in on the accused with the matter escalated to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and NRI Commission.
Braverman's father Christie Santano Godfrey Fernandes, in his complaint to the authorities, accused unknown persons of illegally grabbing his family's ancestral property at Assagao.
Goa government's sustained efforts to come down heavily on fraudulent sale and purchase of land and SIT formed to exclusively handle these cases led the complainant to inquire about his property located in the interiors of Goa.
Shocked to know that unknown persons impersonated him through POA and filed inventory proceedings before the relevant authority, Fernandes quickly mailed his grievance to the Goa government and the NRI Commission. He sought registering an offence and arresting he culprits involved.
The ancestral property located in survey numbers 253/3 and 252/3 belongs to Fernandes and his other family members.
Fernandes' mail also hailed the Goa government's efforts to crackdown on the large scale fraud in the State through which he was alerted.
The SIT has registered an offence under Sections 419 (cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
