Landslide and strong winds disrupt Salcete

Landslide and strong winds disrupt Salcete

MARGAO

A minor landslide was reported in Curtorim village, while strong winds uprooted around six high-tension poles in neighbouring Raia village as incessant rains lashed Salcete on Sunday.

Residents, however, got a big respite on Sunday evening as the rains subsided for around two hours, facilitating drainage of the flood waters.

The Margao fire brigade was on its toes as the fire and rescue control room received a host of calls from across Salcete throughout Sunday.

The Arlem traffic junction was inundated by flood waters since early Sunday morning, disrupting vehicular traffic at the busy junction.

A landslide was reported in Curtorim on an internal road.

Around six HT poles came down in the fields at Raia.

Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco said work on the restoration of the poles in the paddy fields commenced in the evening, exuding confidence in restoring the power supply.

At Assolna, a coconut tree came down on a four-wheeler, besides snapping overhead power lines in the Banda area of the village.
