CANACONA
Landslides have brought down large boulders on the road at Asali-Shristhal in Canacona and have posed a serious threat to locals who travel on the road on a daily basis.
About a fortnight ago, a landslide brought down not only mud and trees, but large boulders also came tumbling down on the road at Asali-Shristhal.
According to a local, Sidharth Gayak, the only road to Asali is frequently used by residents.
“The mud just slides down, bringing along big boulders which roll down the road at any time. This road is used by everyone in the village. The site poses a grave risk and anyone can be caught at the wrong time,” said Gayak.
On being informed of the incident, authorities came and removed the boulders and mud. A team of Congress workers who visited the area on Thursday, however, alleged that authorities have not taken any measures to stop further landslides in the area.
According to Congress (South) District General Secretary Gaspar Coutinho, who along with other Congress workers visited the site for an inspection, people of Asali are unhappy with authorities as the site is vulnerable to more landslides.
“The situation is very precarious as every now and then, landslides bring down trees and rocks on the road. We request the department concerned and the taluka disaster management authority to look into it and do the needful as early as possible, to ensure the safety of residents in Asali,” said Coutinho.
