The exhaustive 2022 report by the NCRB highlights a charge-sheeting rate of 75.9 per cent, underscoring progress made by the police in initiating trial while the pendency percentage accounted for 28.6 per cent “ still a cause of concern.
As per the data released three months after its actual scheduled time, the NCRB indicates that Goa Police had a total of 3,994 cases for investigation in 2022, comprising 1,281 pending from the previous year and 2,711 reported during that year.
Out of these, the police disposed of 2,850 cases including cases charge-sheeted, abated during investigation, and those resolved as mistakes of fact or law or civil disputes. As such, the charge-sheeting rate stood at 75.9 per cent, however, 1,142 cases remained pending investigation at the end of the year, reflecting a pendency percentage of 28.6 per cent.
Under the categorization of 'Disposal,' a total of 2,162 cases were charge-sheeted, comprising 701 from the previous year and 1,461 from cases reported in 2022 whereas 12 cases were 'Abated During the Investigation Process,' and 140 cases ended as 'Mistakes of Fact or Law or Civil Disputes.'
There were also cases classified as “true but with insufficient evidence, untraced, or with no clue” and a total of 527 cases fell under this category. Two cases were quashed at the investigation stage and another two cases stayed at the investigation stage.
