Lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues, who switched to a Portuguese passport and relinquished his Indian one a year ago, has approached the Bombay High Court in Goa.
He contests the cancellation of his OCI status application, crucial for attending a forthcoming criminal trial. Rodrigues, filing from the UK, argues that cancellation lacked due process under Rule 32(2) of the Citizenship Rules, 2009. He contends that without the OCI card, attending January 2025 trial in Mapusa could prove problematic.
The petition targets the Ministry of Home Affairs and FRRO, Mumbai, alleging no prior notice or opportunity to respond was provided. The HC has scheduled a hearing on July 1.
