MARGAO: Taps ran dry of the residents of Ward No 22 and ward no 8 of the Margao Municipal Council when they had to literally go without water since the last 4-5 days.
Hopes of early restoration of the water supply brightened on Tuesday after the water supply officials detected the damaged to the underground pipeline caused by the laying of a gas line.
Margao Municipal Councillors Camilo Barretto and Damodar Varak told the media on Tuesday that residents had to undergo the ordeal for the last 4-5 days after their taps ran dry. Making matters worse, they said, was the delay in detecting the damage caused to the underground line by the laying of a gas pipeline.
They told the media that Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and his son Yogiraj came with officials to ensure that the damage was detected at the earliest and early restoration of the water supply to the residents.
Camilo Barretto said people had to face lot of hardships in the last 4-5 days as they had no water for the purpose of sanitation. “The damage caused to the underground line should come as an eye opener for the PWD authorities since there is no plan or maps indicating the location of the underground line”, he said.
