Rector Major of Salesians all over world Fr Ángel Fernández Artime installs Fr Clive Telles as the 4th Provincial of the Province of Panjim (Konkan) at Don Bosco Shrine in Panaji.
Rector Major of the Salesians all over the world and superior of Don Bosco institutions in 134 countries Fr Ángel Fernández Artime on Wednesday installed Fr Clive Telles as the 4th Provincial of the Province of Panjim (Konkan).
“Leadership is a selfless service, thank you for accepting it,” Fr Artime, the 10th Successor of Don Bosco, told Fr Telles.
The new Provincial will take charge of 18 Salesian institutions in the Konkan region, from Kolhapur in Maharashtra, Goa to Mangalore in Karnataka, which has 105 Salesians working in the province.
Taking the example of Jesus, and marking the ultimate goal of leadership as ‘service to others’ during the solemn concelebrated Holy Eucharist, Fr Artime instructed Fr Telles at the installation ceremony to serve his collaborators, to serve the youth of the province and to take care of himself in the bargain.
“Leadership is not easy. Leader is not a boss. He is a servant. He has to reach out, take care of the poor and the needy,” said Fr Artime, the 10th Successor of Don Bosco.
Looking at the leaders of the 11 Salesian provinces of South Asia present for the installation ceremony, Fr Artime said, “You must strive to make your institutions as the house of Valdocco, Don Bosco’s first institution for the poor and the needy, where every youth was welcomed. It was marked by love, concern and service to them.”
The Provincials and their councils will move to St Joseph Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre, Old Goa, for a seven-day retreat preached by Fr Artime from Wednesday.
