Legal Cell set up for 183 ABE institutions

A Legal Cell has been set up to provide advice, legal opinion, clarifications and responses for 173 primary, secondary, higher secondary schools and 10 colleges affiliated to the Archdiocesan Board of Education (ABE) in the State.

The ABE Legal Cell, which was launched with the blessings of Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao on July 24, will provide service to the ABE institutions from August 1.

The Legal Cell comprises Fr Allan Noronha SFX (Coordinator), Fr Simon Diniz (Assistant Coordinator) and Sr Snehala AC, Sr Margaret SFN, Fr Jesus Rodrigues and Fr Tamatur Cardozo SDB (members).

The Legal Cell’s purpose will be to provide advice, legal opinion, clarifications and responses, cater to all legal matters and common ABE issues and take up minority issues related to education.

The Legal Cell will also scrutinise and monitor all the government circulars, regulations, Amendments regarding educational and minority rights. It will also advise and guide member-constituents and ABE educational institutions on matters related to education whether administrative, legal, financial or otherwise.

As part of its activity, the Legal Cell will organise seminars and workshops with the help of lawyers and other experts on educational matters, communicate judgments of the Supreme Court/High Court related to minority rights in the field of education and will frame common policies in all matters pertinent to government circulars or directives relating to the administration or legal matters concerning minority institutions.

Advocates Vledson Braganza and Vinod Vishnu Korgaonkar, two legal experts on educational matters, have been engaged for the Legal Cell and will be available on the second and fourth Saturday in the ABE Office (Legal Cell) from 10.30 am to 1 pm.

Fr Allan Noronha has also been appointed full-time coordinator for a period of three years to administer all activities of the Legal Cell from the ABE office.

Fr Noronha, who will be a liaison between ABE constituents and the lawyer, will be in the office on Tuesday and Saturday. He can also be contacted on Ph: 9470130800 or 9753263903 on any working day during office hours (10 am to 5 pm) to handle all queries or any appointments with the lawyer.
