CALANGUTE
Stating that Tibet was always an independent country, Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has assured to raise the issue of Tibet's independence in the assembly and follow it up with the central government.
Lobo was speaking to a delegation of Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), who called on him on Wednesday to request the government to recognize Tibet as an independent nation.
A delegation led by organiser secretary Penpa Tsering and information secretary Tsewang Dolma submitted a memorandum to Lobo at his office in Parra.
"Tibet was always an independent country. I will raise this issue in the assembly and follow it up with the central government," Lobo assured the delegation.
In their memorandum, the TYC stated that India and Tibet share a long historical, cultural, religion and trade relations.
"The recent stand off between the two countries in the Doklam region, which is a part of Tibet, indicates that India's security lies in an Independent Tibet. China has portrayed India as the aggressor while sending out not so subtle threats to India," stated the TYC in the memorandum.
The TYC also criticized the Chinese communist government for blocking India's entry into NSG and obstructing India's candidature as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and dumping of nuclear wastes in Tibet, building of dams, diverting Himalayan rivers like Indus, Sutlej and Brahmaputra originating in Tibet.
