Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo said he will take up the issue of Women’s Reservation Bill in the State Assembly to give due representation to women in the State.
“I will put it in the Assembly about Women’s reservation bill…we always talk about doing this and that for the women…why don’t we bring them in the Assembly and let them legislate…,” Lobo said.
“Today we have only two women in the Assembly. If the reservation bill is passed we will have at least nine women in the assembly,” he added.
Lobo was speaking at a function to celebrate Women’s Day at Parra Church hall on Thursday. Thirty self-help groups attended the function. Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo was also present. Speaking further, he said the govt was proactive to the concerns of the people but expected it to take up women’s reservation with the same enthusiasm.
“There is a lot of things the govt is trying to do. But until and unless the reservation for women does not come in the Parliament and the Assembly, we will still continue talking about empowerment of women,” he said.
He said it was high time the government stopped talking and get into action mode. “We should not talk. We should do it. If this (reservation) happens today instead of two women there would be nine women in the State Assembly.” He said women were in the better position to understand the needs of the society.
“Women understand what society wants, what people want and they can bring the change. Women can bring more change than the man,” Lobo further said.
