Raising the political heat in the State, former minister and Congress candidate from Calangute, Michael Lobo, on Wednesday said BJP’s downfall in the 2022 assembly polls will begin with the defeat of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the Sankhali constituency.
Lobo also assured that as soon as the Congress government comes to power, the three linear projects opposed by the people of Goa would be scrapped.
“The CM should be defeated. If that seat falls, then all other BJP seats will collapse. A new government which will listen to the people should be elected with the full majority so that there is no horse-trading,” Lobo said, while officially launching his election campaign in Calangute.
Slamming the BJP-led government, which he was part of for the last 10 years, the former minister said the mining ban imposed by the government only rendered Goans jobless.
“When this one (Pramod Sawant) became the chief minister, he promised to start mining but till today mining has not started. Several people have been left without jobs. People who want to set up their own businesses are harassed,” he said.
Incidentally, Lobo, who was a minister in the government led by Sawant, often referred to the CM as his friend and therefore, the sudden outburst against him came as a surprise.
Continuing, Lobo said there was a need to send the BJP home and bring Congress to power with 22 plus seats.
He said the BJP-led government was not bothered about Goans but was more interested in helping the outsiders.
He maintained that he was always against the three linear projects and as a minister had assured the people in South Goa that work on the three projects won’t start.
“We will stop the projects which people do not want soon after our government comes to power. The three linear projects will be scrapped. This is our word,” Lobo said.
