Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Revolutionary Goans President Manoj Parab were involved in a spat at the protest meeting during the day-long bandh at Anjuna.
The issue arose when Parab blamed the State government for this current situation. Parab confronted Lobo and demanded to know why the government did not take measures to save the lands in Goa and the local businessmen.
He claimed that the government makes arbitrary changes/amendments in laws when needed and gives permissions for land conversions.
“So why can’t the government bring about a law to protect the locals? The tourism policy should be for the welfare of local Goans and businessmen. The government runs single window system for the big businessmen, then why the same system is not available for the Goans,” asked Parab.
As the issue was going out of hand, the locals intervened and asked Parab not to criticise on a personal or political level.
Lobo to lead delegation to meet CM today
MAPUSA: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said he would lead a delegation to meet Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday to discuss the issue and to work out a solution.
“In 1972, the land survey in the coastal region was undertaken by the government. After that, many structures came into existence. We have appealed to the chief minister to hold a joint meeting with the revenue department and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) officials on Tuesday. A delegation of 12 locals from Anjuna village will also attend this meeting, so that a solution could be reached on the issue,” Lobo told the agitators.
The Calangute MLA also suggested that the village should be brought under CRZ-2 in Anjuna so that the village will get the status of a city and enable constructions closer to the beach.
“The current situation has arisen because CRZ-3 is being implemented for Anjuna,” said Lobo, while advising locals to discuss the matter and adopt a resolution in the Gram Sabha.
