Chinchinim villagers on Sunday made a humble request to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to direct the PWD, National Highway to build a road bypass instead of a flyover at the Dandeavaddo stretch of the NH66.

The villagers led by Sarpanch Frank Viegas and Velim MLA Cruz Silva also took up the issue of construction of the long-pending Chinchinim Panchayat Ghar cum multi-purpose project on the panchayat land acquired over a decade and half ago.

The delegation met the Chief Minister at the St Sebastian Chapel junction, Chinchinim on Sunday while he was returning home after a visit to the Cutbona fishing jetty. The Velim MLA and Sarpanch, besides the panchayat members explained to the Chief Minister how the flyover proposed at Dandeavaddo will not help to reduce traffic congestion. Instead, the delegation impressed upon the Chief Minister that a road bypass, which was the original alignment of the highway expansion, would serve the purpose of traffic decongestion.

The Chief Minister said he would discuss the issue raised by the Chinchinim villagers with the PWD officials to find out the best feasible route for the highway.

Velim MLA Cruz Silva later told the media that the Chief Minister has promised to call a meeting of PWD officials and the villagers to discuss the issue. Cruz further said the Chief Minister has promised to take up the work of the Chinchinim Panchayat Ghar at the earliest.

Sarpanch Frank told the media that the delegation has explained the Chief Minister how the road bypass would meet the purpose of highway expansion than a flyover. “We also requested the CM to clear the long-pending work of the construction of the Chinchinim panchayat ghar,” he added.
