A host of issues including garbage came up for discussions at the gram sabha of the village Panchayat of Curtorim.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Alexinho D’Silva took a stormy note after agitated gram sabha members questioned the chair over the Panchayat decision not to take up for discussion five of the six proposals given by a member, including a question on how mega projects are approved without a discussion at the gram sabha.
The issue of Panchayat’s decision to revoke the construction license issued to a housing project also figured at the meeting, with a member questioning the powers of the Panchayat to revoke the license.
Members drew attention of the Sarpanch to the garbage menace that has raised its ugly head in the village with people disposing of their waste along road sides and in fields.
In fact, agitated members pointed out while the Panchayat body has failed to resolve the garbage issue staring at the village, licenses for housing projects are being issued without taking the available garbage treatment infrastructure into consideration.
On the issue of rejection of five out of the six proposal made by a member, agitated members trained their guns at the Sarpanch accusing the Panchayat body of being pro-builder.
Ex Curtorim ZP Moreno Rebelo also spoke about the Industrial Zone land admeasuring 67000 sq metres situated in Curtorim, as the member demanded clarity on the same.
