Stink has raised its ugly head near the Margao wholesale fish market.

Fish lovers have condemned what they termed as unhygienic conditions prevailing outside the Margao wholesale fish market and along the roadside.

They have sought the urgent intervention of the PWD Minister Digambar Kamat with a plea to direct the department officials to clear the roadside nuisance and create parking space for vehicles.

A citizen from Navelim George Baretto told the media that he and his friends from Navelim found the conditions deplorable along the roadside outside the wholesale fish market.

“When we tried to park our vehicles on the roadside outside the wholesale fish market, we came across unhygienic conditions all around. Leave alone parking, the entire area was emanating foul odour, causing nuisance and posing health hazard to the visitors”, he said.

George further said that the situation does not augur well for Goa when the  wholesale fish market road has now become part of the National highway after the road was connected to the Margao western bypass.

“Since we have the PWD Minister from our backyard, we request Kamat to intervene and rid the roadside of the stench and filth, besides odour”, he said.

He added: "The authorities should find out why the road side is emitting foul odour. It is apparent that the waste water is clogged along the roadside. This has only raised a stink”.
