Demanding that the issue of water conservation be taken very seriously, Santa Cruz villagers demanded that the issue of Bondvoll lake should be brought to the notice of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its preservation for future generations.
The demand was made after a letter from the PM to the sarpanchas was read to the villagers at a special meeting held to discuss water conservation on Wednesday. Speaking on the issue, the villagers stated that the Bondvoll lake is a great example of water conservation, which faces threat due to vested interests. “If the authorities are really concerned about water conservation, then the Bondvoll lake issue should be addressed to the PM,” panch Mariano Araujo demanded.
Arturo D’Souza demanded that water harvesting facilities be made compulsory for all housing projects with an area of 2,500 square metres and above. D’Souza also demanded that illegal bore wells in various housing societies be inspected and sealed.
Speaking on the subject, Elsa Dias stated that all sluice gates and bundhs should be repaired so that fresh water is not lost due to entry of saline water. She also suggested that a tree plantation drive should be undertaken in the village in open areas as part of water harvesting initiative.
