The Municipal New market and the Gandhi market witnessed a huge rush of shoppers since morning. Most of the remaining shops and business establishments were found open on Monday following further easing of the lockdown restrictions.
The city roads witnessed bumper to bumper traffic at some points, indicating the return of the hustle and bustle in the state’s commercial capital after the over month-long lockdown.
Margao Municipal Chief Officer AgneloFernandes pointed out that almost all the shops and business establishments in the commercial capital reopened on Monday. He appealed to the people as well as the traders to cooperate with the administration in maintaining COVID safety norms, including social distancing. “I appeal to the people to wear masks and maintain social distancing when they are in the city. The shops and business establishments have opened on Monday and it is now incumbent on the people to strictly maintain the COVID safety norms”, he added.
A couple of traders in the New market complained of water seepage in their shops due to the damage caused to the roof sheets during the repair work. They have asked the authorities to repair the damaged sheets at the earliest.
